Here's part 1 of "To a Different Toon". This story is *not* part of my
"Voyager: New Life" Series. This story is based on a idea a friend and I
came up together. As usual, feedback of any type (except flames) is

A Voyager humor story

To a Different Toon (1/?)
By George Padovan

The Starship Voyager, representing the United Federation of
Planets, warped through Delta Quadrant space on its way back home to the
Alpha Quadrant.

During the past week, the crew fell into normal routine. The food
stocks were full. They were far behind Kazon space into a sector that Neelix
said was safe. The crew was starting to become reckless from boredom.

It was the middle of the day shift when Ensign Harry Kim received a
warning from his station that there was something ahead of Voyager. He
checked and rechecked his readings to make sure what he saw was true.
The Chief Operations Officer glanced up from his monitor to make a
report.

"Captain, there's a space distortion ahead of us!" the ensign
blurted out.

Captain Kathryn Janeway immediately glanced up from Kim's
report. The tone of his voice told her that it's something that she need
to know immediately.

"All stop, Mr. Paris!" Janeway barked.

"Aye, all stop," Lt. Tom Paris said. The blond pilot realized
something was wrong. Voyager was still moving. "Captain, we're being
pulled forward! All engines are at full stop!"

Janeway didn't wait another second. "All engines at full reverse!"

Paris executed her command but Voyager lurched, still being pulled
forward. "No effect, Captain!" Kim mentioned from his station. "The
distortion have some sort of graviton pull on us! We're being pulled
into the distortion!"

"On screen, Mr. Kim!" Voyager's captain ordered.

On the main view screen, a dark distorted area of space was getting
bigger as they approached. Chakotay sent out a warning to the entire
ship.

"All hands, braced for impact!"

Voyager sailed through the dark space distortion and the ship violently
shook, knocking everyone unconscious.

*****

Captain Janeway was on the floor when she woke. *That was some ride,*
she told herself. She opened her eyes. Her vision appeared to be blurry,
so she blinked her eyes more in hope to adjust her eyes. Janeway
realized that her vision was *not* blurry.

Voyager's captain bolted upright and glanced around the bridge. The
walls, the floor, the control panels, *everything* appeared to her as to
be.....drawn and colored? Something was very *wrong*.

When she checked on her crew, her eyes widened again. Her crew no longer
were human to her.

Chakotay next to her was a broad shouldered gray wolf. His tattoo was
drawn over the fur above his right eye. He wore only the top half of his
uniform.

Kim was over his console but his body was pure white with black hair on
top. He had big ears. To Janeway, he looked like a mouse.

Voyager's Chief Pilot was on the floor. A red-white fox tail and fur was
evident on him. He too wore only his top half of his uniform. His blond
hair was between two pointed red fox ears. He had a long fox snout.

Chief Engineer B'Elanna Torres was unconscious in her chair at the
Engineering console. She wore her entire uniform except the boots. The
pants were now shorts. A skunk, Janeway thought, she was definitely a
skunk. Torres's ridges were still there as well as her brown hair that
surround her head. Black ears pointed out of her head on top.

Last, the captain glanced at the Tactical station to see her Vulcan
friend, Tuvok, to be a pointed ear black cat with raised eyebrows.

*My god! This *can't* be what I think *it* is!* Then another thought hit
her. *If they're converted, that means....* Janeway glanced at herself.

The boots were gone and she saw huge furry feet. The toes were furry
white the rest was sort of pink. Her hands were of the same color furry
pink color. Janeway ran her hands over her face. She felt a pointed
nose. Her hair was there, but felt something else. Two long furry points
started at the top of her head but ended behind her neck in a bow along with her hair that was below the points. Ears? She felt something on her
behind as she sat down in her seat. A tail?

The it dawned on her. Huge furry feet. Pointed nose. Long ears pulled
back behind her neck. A tail. *I'M A RABBIT!*

Janeway let out a ear piercing scream from her throat that woke up the
entire bridge crew with amazing results.

Chakotay bound out of his seat posed in attack mode while glancing
around the bridge. "Okay, where's the beef!"

Kim woke looking around the bridge startled. Question marks keep
appearing above his head.

Tuvok woke with a hiss escaping his lips, but he immediately went back
to normal. "Fascinating." He said with a black tail swishing behind him.

Torres awoke with her mouth talking. "Is the warp core all right? Are we
home? Has the Klingon Empire fell?"

Tom Paris jumped straight to the ceiling and clung there. He glanced
around the bridge from the ceiling wondering if he was dreaming. His
tail hung out.

Letting go, Voyager's pilot landed on his feet as Janeway stopped
screaming. The crew glanced at each other and the look of their ship.

*Man!* Paris mentally said. *We look like something out of 20th century
Warner Brothers' cartoons!*

Finally, Tom blurted out what Janeway and him thought they were now.
"Cartoons! We're all cartoons!"

Janeway walked over to Paris. "Cartoons, Mr. Paris?"

"Yes, Captain, cartoons. A 20th century form of comedy entertainment
that uses drawn characters and background instead of live people. They
were pretty popular back then."

"Indeed," Tuvok said. "They were called animation. I studied about them
when I was a student at the academy."

Janeway walked over to the Tactical station. "You studied cartoons,
Tuvok?"

"Yes, Captain," the Vulcan said to her. His tail whooshed excitedly. "I
studied 20th century animation to better understand..."

"I *don't* want to know, Tuvok." Janeway interrupted him, shaking her
pink hand. Her other hand held on her forehead as she felt a headache
trying to comprehend the fact that she, her crew, and Voyager were
cartoons.

Chakotay, after examining himself, looked more closely at his Captain.
She was a pink female rabbit. Her cartoon auburn hair was exactly like
she wore as a human, but two pink ears were evident as they swept over
her head and ended tied in a bow behind her lower neck. *Even as a
cartoon, she still looks beautiful.* Voyager's First Officer thought.
Her uniform was like B'Elanna's - no boots, black shorts but her top
uniform was the same as before.

His mouth drooled at the thought of his beautiful captain and realized
he almost emitted a growl. Chakotay immediately slapped himself with
whacking sounds. He blurted out, "What am I thinking!", with a hand
slapped on his forehead.

Lt. Paris was at his side, when he heard the Commander said his words.
Paris's fox snout was curled in a grin with his teeth showing. The pilot
snickered at his First Officer. "I know *exactly* what you were
thinking, Commander. That drooling look..."

Paris stopped when Chakotay growled at him and looked like he was about
to pounce. "Now Commander, let not be hasty here."

"Commander!" Janeway shouted.

Chakotay shook out of his anger. Sounds were heard as he shook his head.
(Bobby-bop, bobby-bop) "Sorry, Captain. It seems being a cartoon tend to
bring out inner feelings to the surface."

"*This* plus many other things, Chakotay." Paris stated to him and
Captain Janeway. For an example, Paris thumbed behind him to Kim.

Janeway and Chakotay saw Kim, as a white oriental mouse with black hair,
trying to do his work. But question marks and explanation points
sometimes appear over his head. Out of announce, Harry swatted the air
above him angrily and the question marks and explanation points
scattered out of existence.

"As a cartoon," Tom continued, "our laws of physics does *not* apply
here. The laws of cartoons apply here, and I assure you if you don't
know anything about cartoons, you'll have a hard time controlling or
understanding these laws. One advantage as cartoons is that we *can't*
get hurt or killed as we know it from our universe."

"Really, Tom?" Janeway said in amazement.

"Yes, Captain." Paris answered. He pointed to Chakotay. "Hit me, Big
Guy."

Chakotay's face showed he was uncertain. "Are you sure, Tom?"

Paris saw the Commander's gray tail swishing back and forth in joy at
the thought. Janeway saw it to but inwardly grinned.

"Yes, I'm certain, Chakotay." Paris said with his arms crossed and his
fox tail high.

The Commander grinned evil and punched Tom in the nose with all his
might. The foxy pilot sailed threw the air and crashed into the front
wall. (BOOOOOM!)

Paris made a impression in the wall, but he popped out like he *never*
felt the blow. Brushing off his top uniform, Tom came back up to his
commanding officers near their chairs. Everyone was amazed at what they
saw except Tuvok.

With his fox snout up against Chakotay's wolf snout, Paris blurted out.
"I didn't feel *that* one bit." He snapped his fingers to the first
officer's face. The pilot turned to Janeway with a raise hand, but
immediately crossed his eyes and fell flat on his face when he finally
felt the effect of the punch.

Chakotay grinned at Janeway. "I know *some* cartoons, and I know that
sometimes the effect of a blow have a delay event. The effect will not
happened until the character emits that he didn't felt anything."

Voyager's captain grinned as she help Tom get back up. (Bobby-bop,
bobby-bop) Tom shook his head and smiled.

"That was fun. I always want to *feel* how cartoons take that."

Chakotay grinned some more. "Want to go a few more *rounds*,
Lieutenant?"

"Gentlemen!" Janeway said with a smile and hands out. "I don't think I
want any more *impressions* on the walls."

B'Elanna just couldn't believe the whole silly situation. "This is
ridiculous! I'm not a skunk!"

"For now, B'Elanna, you're a skunk. I don't like being a rabbit, but
this is what I am for now." Janeway stated.

"I want to change back now!" screamed the Chief Engineer.

Tom immediately saw a problem. "B'Elanna, you should calm down or else
you'll do something we'll all regret."

Instead of calming down, Lt. Torres was furious with her face turning
bright red. "WHY YOU...." (BOOOOOM!)

The explosion came with a cloud of gas that swept the bridge and the
*smell* was *not* pleasing.

Harry turned green and his cheeks expanded as he tried to hold on.
Unable to hold, he fled the bridge to the nearest bathroom.

The Captain and First Officer was choking and their eyes were streaming
water. (Cough! Cough!) "What *happened!" Janeway managed to blurt out.

Tuvok answered. He appeared *not* to be affected. "Being a skunk, Lt.
Torres emitted the less-than-appealing odor that Earth skunks emitted
when they get highly upset. I'm not effect by the odors at all." Just as
he said this, his body noticed the scent and twitched, twitched, and
twitched. "Then again, I can be wrong." The Vulcan coughed and gagged.

Before the cloud came to him, Paris whipped out, of thin air behind his
back, a gas masked and put it on. After Tuvok made his report, Paris
went down to the Engineering console and saw Torres was holding her
throat and was now dark green.

*Now where's that button?* Tom said to himself, looking. *Ah! Here it
*is*!* He pushed a green button that said, "To remove chief engineer's
skunk odors".

With a click and the button light turned on, the air vents immediately
*sucked* out the gas clouds. (SLURRRRRRP! SMACK! BURP!) Taking off his
gas mask, Paris gave a smirk at the sounds the ventilation system gave.

Captain Janeway, after breathing in fresh air, went over to the
Engineering station. "Lt. Torres....You must *not* get upset again.
Tried to learn to control yourself or else I'll order the Doctor to
remove your glands. Clear?"

"Aye, Captain," Torres answered. "I definitely don't want *this*
happening again." She too breath in fresh air.

Janeway turned to Paris. "Where did you get that gas mask so fast?"

"Simple. As cartoons, we can whip out *anything* out of thin air."

He demonstrated by whipping out a glass of beer behind his back,
drinking it down, and throwing it over his shoulder where it just
disappeared.

"Hmmmm." Janeway said. She went behind her back and whipped out a cup of
coffee and drank the entire cup. "Ah! I needed that." The Captain threw
away the cup and smiled dreamily.

Chakotay sat in his chair taking in what he saw. *If she can do it, I
can to.* He went behind his back to pull out what he was thinking. He
pulled out Captain Janeway onto his lap. "What?!?!" he exclaimed. *I
always wanted her on my lap, but this is *not* what I had in mind!* With
eyes wide, Janeway looked back and forth between Chakotay and the place
where she used to be standing near the Engineering station. *I dreamed
of falling into his lap, but this is *not* what I had in mind!* She got
up immediately and composed herself despite the snickers from Torres and
Paris. "Commander, try to focus your mind on *other* things when you
whip out stuff." The Commander nodded, his face was turning red through
the fur.

Kim came onto the bridge. His face was still bit green. With his round
ears flopping, he went back to his station. Janeway called to him.

"Mr. Kim, you're still bit...*green*. Are you alright?"

"I'll be alright, Captain, as soon as my body adjusts back to being
normal."

Janeway nodded despite her worry over Kim. She looked at her uniform and
did not like what she saw. "I do *not* like the shorts. I think I better
go change."

"Captain," Tuvok called out. "You can spin-change on the bridge without
the need to go to your quarters."

"Spin-change?" Janeway queried.

"Yes." Voyager's Security Chief said. He spun around so fast and when he
stopped he was wearing his Vulcan robes. He spun again to change back to
his uniform top. With a smirk, Janeway shrugged and said, "I'll give it
a try."

She spun and found herself in a shoulder-less shining evening dress,
that cling to her every curve, with high heels.

(OOOOGA!) Chakotay's and Paris's eyes popped out of their heads right at
Janeway as their tongues fell to the floor. Immediately, their eyes and
tongues went back to their original positions and they began to howl
with their feet tapping the floor."OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

Janeway screamed, "Nock it off, you two!" She whipped out a water spray
bottle and sprayed Chakotay then Paris with water.

(Bobby-bop) "Sorry, Captain, another cartoon instinct." Chakotay said
with his hand on his forehead.

(Bobby-bop) "Boy....Talk about *eye-popping* experience." Paris
mentioned with his hand over his eyes.

Janeway continued. "This is *not* what I had in mind!" She spin-changed
again to be in a 20th century United States Navy Captain's uniform.

"This looks nice," she said looking at the uniform, "but not suited for
Starfleet." She spin-changed back to her previous Starfleet uniform with
the shorts.

"This will have to do. I'm *not* going through that 'spin-change'
again." Tuvok spoke out. "Captain, I strongly advice to seek out the
space distortion that brought us to this universe. The same *door* will
eventually bring us back to *our* universe." Tuvok began to walk down
from his station to the commanding officers.

"STOP!" Paris shouted out to Tuvok. "Before you pass *anyone*, Tuvok,
it's better for everyone to carry a *good* luck charm."

As Paris whipped out four-leaf clovers for the bridge crew, Tuvok was
puzzled but understood a moment later. "Ah, yes. You're *correct*, Mr.
Paris. A black cat walking in front of someone will bring bad luck to
that person. Especially in cartoons."

Paris gave a clover to Janeway, but Chakotay refused it. "I *don't*
believe in such superstitious nonsense."

"I advise you, Commander, to consider otherwise for your well being,"
Paris said.

"No thank you, *Mr.* Paris." The wolf-Indian turned to Tuvok.

"Just walk in front of us and I'll prove this *otherwise*." Tuvok
sighed. "As you wish, Commander." Tuvok walked down to the command level
and walked passed first Janeway, Chakotay, then Paris. Nothing happened
and Chakotay snorted. "See, Tom, nothing happened."

As soon as he said the words, a sound of something falling came above
his head. (BOOOOOOM!) An anvil squashed the First Officer flat.

"Chakotay!" hollered Janeway. She removed the anvil and saw him flat as
a pancake.

Paris shook his head and crossed his arms. "I tried to warn him, but
*would* he listen to me?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Tuvok took the Commander and flapped him. With a pop, Chakotay was full
again. Stars was spinning around his head.

"Chakotay!" Janeway shouted. "Are you alright?"

His dark eyes were crossed when he answered. "But Mom I don't want to
take balled lessons!" (Bobby-bop) "Oooooooh!"

*Balled lessons?* Janeway laughed inside. *I will remember *that* one!*
With a serious face, the Captain took a spare clover and placed it on
Chakotay's uniform. "From *now* on, until we returned to our universe,
you, Commander will *wear* that clover. Also, *everyone* will heed Paris
and Tuvok of their advice dealing with being cartoons. Is this clear?!"
Everyone nodded an affirmative.

"Good." Janeway was satisfied. "I want everyone working on *finding*
that space distortion that brought us to this universe." Everyone got
back to work.

Voyager's captain felt groggy. *I need another slug.* She whipped out a
*giant* cup of coffee of the same height as her and drank the *entire*
cup. Finishing the cup, she let the cup down on the floor. (THUNK!) She
sighed and crossed her arms on the rim of the cup. Her head rested on
her arms and her eyes were in a dreamy state. "Ah, I needed that."
